1. Inception
workshop – PHO, Kupang, 26th & 27th September 2012
• discuss current use of SMS in health reporting in NTT
• international perspective of mobile health applications
by a representative of the Medic Mobile (international consortium
of mobile health tool developers: http://medicmobile.org)
• explore potential applications for SMS reporting of health
data
• plan training, pilot applications and evaluation of pilot
applications
2. Training
of district health staff in use of Frontline SMS
• Kupang for officers from TTS, Sabu, Rote, Alor districts
• Bajawa for officers from Ngada, Nagekeo, Manggarai Timur
districts
• Waingapu (Sumba) for officers from Sumba Timur, Sumba Tengah,
Sumba Barat Daya districts
Trainees will learn to set up and use Frontline SMS. All districts
will be provided with the modem and software required to use Frontline
SMS.
3. Training
of clinic staff in use of Frontline SMS
Village midwives
and clinic staff will be introduced to the use of Frontline SMS, with
clinic staff sending requests to village midwives via a modem in a
computer at the clinic, and village midwives responding by sending
health information via SMS to the clinics and receiving phone credit
in return for prompt and complete reporting. Focus group discussions
will be held with these health staff to encourage their participation
in the design and implementation of the system.
5. Trials
of SMS reporting applications
(i) Implementation
trials:
Trial applications will be conducted at the district and clinic
levels on a range of potential applications
(ii) Evaluation of trials:
For both the district and clinic trials, the quality of reporting
will be in terms of whether the data has been accurately communicated,
the completeness of the data and the timeliness of reporting.
